Okay, so I’ve actually been monitoring the Cursor pricing model change situation since Jun 20 after they made the pricing model change, and this just came out, so here I’ll be updating this post live. This post will be attached to the main analysis post once that one is done.
In this post, I’ll analyze the claims made in this blog post from Cursor CEO stating how they’ve “clarified” their pricing. You can read the actual post here.
Update 1 (4:48PM): the post is done-ish.
Update 2 (11:46PM): various grammatical/semantics edits.
Update 3 (Jul 9): it appears that the Opt Out of New Pricing
option is no longer available.
Update 4 (Jul 11): Cursor customer rep confirms that users who are using new pricing can no longer opt out. It is still unclear if those who did will get to keep their previous plan benefits.
But one thing is now sure: Cursor really went “Transparency? We don’t know her. 💁♂️”
I hope y’all Cursor devs know that there are professional PR handlers for a reason. You can’t be them. You’re also doing an awful job right now trying to contain the situation. Call in the calvary!
